Fernie Alpine Resort is just five minutes from downtown Fernie. Here, local have an unofficial rule: If 20cm/8in of snow falls overnight, the nest day's meeting moves to the mountain. The resort attracts more and more newcomers each year. Despite continual changes, Fernie retains a friendly and laidback atmosphere.
The town of Fernie is situated about halfway up the western slope of the Crowsnest Pass and flanked by snowcapped peaks, and has a timeless mountain charm. The downtown core is packed with heritage buildings that have seen very few changes, except for use, in the last one hundred years. What was once a bank is now a restaurant, a house by the highway is now a sushi bar, and downtown stores that used to sell groceries and mining supplies are now filled with outdoor gear.
