Cordoba Spain - A vacation of history and nature

Cordoba, capital of Muslim Spain, is the main city in a territory located in the centre of Andalusia. The Guadalquivir river, at its wider middle course, crosses this province from east to west and provides irrigation for a wide plain where cereals, grapevines and olive trees grow. Towards the north, the landscape becomes progressively wilder until it reaches the summits of the Sierra Morena, with dense forests and abundant wild game for hunting. In the south, the land rises gradually until it reaches the mountains of the Subbética range. These lands with their limestone soils feature spreading olive groves and white villages and noble towns with well-conserved Baroque architecture. This mountainous landscape is home to a varied fauna. The province of Cordoba, which still bears traces of its Iberian, Roman and Muslim past, is rich in traditions; it has an outstanding architectural heritage, and its gastronomy has undergone a considerable resurgence with the revival of a range of dishes from the traditional cooking of the region.

The mural on the font is of the chapel of San Sebastián, the patron saint of construction. For the nature lover, there are the mountain ranges of Tejeda and Almijara, which have been declared a Natural Park and a National Big Game Reserve.

Revelstoke BC - Longest vertical ski run in North America

The recently expanded Revelstoke Mountain Resort has brought a lot of new people to town. Having the longest vertical ski run in North America (1,713 m/5,620 ft) may have something to do with that, but it doesn't tell the whole story. The fact is that, although it has become a major winter destination, Revelstoke is not one of those chic, "cookie-cutter" ski villages. For more than a hundred years, Revelstoke has been a railroad town – the Canadian Pacific Railway is still the town's second largest employer, and the place resonates with down-to-earth authenticity and friendliness. Downtown, you'll find block after block of heritage buildings, (a Heritage Walking Tour brochure is available from the Visitor Centre) and, in summer, a farmers' market and music in the bandshell at Grizzly Plaza.

Discover Cadiz Spain

Cadiz is a seafaring city with 3,000 years of history. It is the southern most provincial capital in Spain . The walls of the "Puertas de Tierra" clearly separate the modern area from the more historical, older part; made up of narrow streets, small squares and colourful local areas, such as "La Viña", an old fishing district where one can try the famous "pescaíto frito" (fried fish); or the "Mentidero" or "Santa María" districts, the true home of flamenco singing; or such as the San Juan de Dios Square, or the "El Pópulo" neighbourhood which was originally an old medieval village. Most of the principal monuments can be found in the old part of the city, which is also ideal for shopping. There is also La Caleta beach, situated on a reef and bordred by the Castles of Santa Catalina and San Sebastian.

Cadiz Spain - Celebrate Carnival of Cádiz - February 12-21, 2010

For over 600 years, Cadiz has celebrated Carnival.  The locals have been waiting all year for February to arrive so they can put on their fancy dress and go out and enjoy themselves. Celebrations take place all over the city, but the party atmosphere is most intense in the neighbourhoods in the historical old town, particularly La Viña, where you can really feel the true spirit of the Carnival of Cádiz. It is an experience not to be missed.  Parades, performances, food and drink… Although the festivities officially take place from 12-21 February, these dates are slightly misleading. Although the fireworks display at the castle on Sunday 21th (domingo de piñata) officially marks the end of this year’s festivities, there is another small carnival the following weekend popularly known as “carnival chiquito” or “carnival de los jartibles”, where those who just can’t get enough of carnival take to the streets for one last hurrah.
